The Peavey classic 30 uses a magic combination of tubes to get it's rich warm tones. You just can't get theses guitar sounds with any solid state circuitry, you have to use tubes. The peavey classic 30 uses 12AX7 tubes for the pre-amp section and the power section uses EL84 tubes. The EL84 tube section can get some great overdrive when you drive the tubes hard and it doesn't take much to do it. This tube combination is the secret to the Peavey classic 30's great sounds.

The Peavey classic 30 uses a pretty simple set-up. It uses two channels. Channel one has one simple volume knob. Channel two has a pre and a post gain letting you tweak your tone just a little more. Both channels share a three band EQ and boost switch for solos helps round off the Peavey classic 30 design. Don't let this simple set-up fool you. The Peavey classic 30 is capable of achieving many tones and sounds. The Peavey classic 30 can sound very clean when you need it but it always has a little bit of an edge.
